In other lands
Many animals we see in zoos are domestic animals of far-off lands.
In India and Southeast Asia, elephants help build roads and clear
forests. Camels pull plows and carry people in parts of Africa and Asia.
In many parts of the world people keep herds of goats, yaks, camels,
llamas, and even reindeer, just as other farmers keep herds of cows or
sheep.
In Lapland and parts of the Soviet Union, people keep herds of reindeer,
which they train to pull loads.

Llamas
In Sri Lanka and some other Asian countries, elephants are trained to
lift logs and to help with other heavy labor. In South America, many
people use llamas for food, clothing, and to carry things. In some
African and Asian countries, many people ride camels and use them for
carrying things.
