The snaky plants

The snaky plants

About 400 million years ago, the plants on land looked like snakes with
stalks on their backs.

The long, snaky, rootlike stems of these plants curled over the ground.
Tiny hairs grew out of the stems and reached into the ground to find
water. Scaly stalks without leaves or flowers grew up out of the stems.
The stalks were about three feet (1 meter) high.

There were no trees or grass or flowers anywhere. Just the strange,
snaky plants, growing on the shores of lakes and quiet pools of water.

\< Sciadophyton

This plant looks very much like some of the plants that lived 400
million years ago.
