Seeds, stems, and salad stuff
All the foods we call vegetables come from some part of a plant.
Lima beans, peas, and kidney beans are plant seeds.
Radishes, carrots, and beets are plant roots.
Onions are plant bulbs. Potatoes are the underground stems of a plant.
Celery and rhubarb are the stalks of plants.
Broccoli and cauliflower are the flowers, buds, and stems of plants.
Cabbage is the bud of a plant.
Lettuce is the leaves of a plant.
And when we eat string beans or scarlet runner beans, we’re eating seed
pods, which are the fruits of plants.
