People who find new ways to use plants
Of course, you know that fruits, vegetables, rubber, string, and several
kinds of cloth come from plants. But do you know that the clear, smooth
cellophane that people sometimes wrap things in comes from plants, too?
And so does the margarine you spread on bread.
Scientists called chemists made these things. In laboratories all over
the world, chemists are finding new, useful things that can be made from
plants.

Dr. George Washington Carver
Dr. George Washington Carver was a great scientist who found many new
ways to use plants. He made more than 100 different things from corn.
And from peanuts he made more than 300 different things, such as paper,
face cream, flour—and even milk!
