Leaf-scar faces
Some trees have “faces”! You can see them in the fall, if you look
closely.
When leaves drop off a tree, scars are left. The scars often look like
the faces of animals—or even creatures from another planet. They
appear where new leaves will grow, so they are called leaf-scar faces.
Different trees have different leaf-scar faces. Four kinds are shown on
these pages. What do you think they look like?
