STREET OF STEPS
Part of the modern city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, is Old San Juan. Here,
the government has rebuilt and restored many old buildings and streets.
Now, tourists and others can see what Old San Juan looked like, long
ago.
One old street is unlike any other. It has wide steps that lead from one
landing to another. It is a street for people, not cars. It was built
this way so that it would be easy for people to walk up the hill.
This street of steps was named for nuns who once lived in a convent
there. The nuns moved away, and the convent later became a modern hotel.
But the street is still called “Callejon de las Monjas,” Spanish for
“Street of the Nuns.”
“Street of the Nuns” is a street of steps in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
