QUEEN FOR AN ERA

A huge statue in front of Buckingham Palace in London, England, honors
Queen Victoria.

QUEEN FOR AN ERA

Whoever the ruler of England may be, one of the places the ruler lives
is Buckingham Palace, which is in the middle of London.

In front of the palace, you can see a monument to the queen who ruled
England longer than any other ruler. She ruled for most of the century
before this one—from 1837 to 1901. And, besides being queen of
England, she was queen of Ireland and empress of India.

She was the last English queen to have great power. She did so much to
help make England strong that the nineteenth century was named after
her—the Victorian Era. Her name was Victoria.
