GOVERNMENT IN A MUSEUM

GOVERNMENT IN A MUSEUM

You might expect to find barracks for soldiers behind the walls of a
fortress. But would you also expect to find palaces, and cathedrals, and
even some government buildings there?

Such buildings stand behind the walls of one fortress — the Kremlin in
Moscow. “Kremlin” comes from a Russian word that means “fortress.”

You can’t visit some of the government buildings in the Kremlin. But you
can visit such places as the Armory Palace and see many things that once
belonged to czars. Czars were the emperors of Russia long ago.

In the Armory, you can see jeweled Easter eggs, golden helmets, guns and
armor, jeweled sabers, and even the throne of the czar named Ivan the
Terrible.

This is the Kremlin in Moscow. The boat in the foreground is traveling
on the Moscow River.
