GEORGE WASHINGTON SLEPT HERE
Sometimes a building becomes famous because an important person slept
there. Many times we don’t know that the person really did stay there.
But we can be sure there is at least one place where George Washington
slept. It was his home—Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon is in Virginia near Washington, D.C. The mansion stands on
high ground overlooking the Potomac River. It has nineteen rooms. You
can see the bed that George Washington slept in, the desk where he
wrote, a telescope that he used, and many of the books that he read.
You can also see the tomb of George Washington and his wife Martha on
the grounds at Mount Vernon.
