CAPTURING THE SEAS
Once a great English sailor, named Horatio Nelson, helped England become
the ruler of the seas. During the Battle of Trafalgar off the coast of
Spain, Nelson and his fleet won a fight against the French and Spanish
fleets.
It was the greatest naval victory in British history. But Admiral Nelson
was killed during the battle.
Today, a huge statue of Admiral Nelson stands on a tall column in the
middle of Trafalgar Square in London, England. It is one of the great
man-made landmarks of the world. Some people say that if you are looking
for a certain Englishman, all you have to do is stand in front of the
Nelson .monument in Trafalgar Square, and sooner or later the person you
are looking for will walk by.
