Woven mat
Materials
■ newspaper (twelve sheets)
■ scissors
■ transparent tape
1 Fold twelve double-page sheets of newspaper into strips. Open
each sheet and fold it in half the long way. Then fold it in half two
more times. Press each strip with your hand to flatten it.2 Place six of the strips side by side so that the ends meet
evenly. Tape thestrips down at one end to hold them in place.
- When you finish weaving, untape the strips and push the rows
together. Move the strips back and forth until the ends are even all
around the mat.

- Weave the other six strips over and
under the strips you taped down, as shown. The first, third, and fifth
strips should go over and under. The second, fourth, and sixth strips
should go under and over.
- Fold the loose ends of the strips over the edges of the mat and tuck
them in. Turn the mat over and tuck in the loose ends on the other
side.
