Picture puzzle
Materials
coping saw
glue (white)
paintbrush
pencil
picture (magazine or poster)
plywood (\| inch thick)
sandpaper
varnish
vise
Sand the plywood on both sides and on the edges (see sanding,
page 203).Glue your picture to the wood. Spread a thin layer of glue on the
back of the picture. Then press the picture on the wood. Let the
glue dry.Draw the puzzle pieces on the back of the wood. For your first
puzzle, make the pieces large and keep the shapes simple.Place the wood in a vise with the puzzle pieces facing you. Slowly
and carefully cut out the puzzle pieces (see sawing, page 202)
with a coping saw. If you use a fine blade (one with more teeth per
inch) you will be able to cut very sharp curves.Sand the edges of the pieces.
Varnish the puzzle (see finishing, page 203). Varnish one side,
and let it dry. Then varnish the other side and the edges. Let the
varnish dry.
Now try to put your puzzle together.
