Let’s pretend

Doctor For a stethoscope, tape a long loop of yarn to a spool. Hang
the stethoscope around your neck.

Police Officer or Sheriff Cut out a cardboard star. Cover the
star with foil. Pin the star on your shirt.

Let’s pretend

It’s fun to make believe you’re someone else. When you pretend, you can
be anyone you want to be and do anything you want to do.

King or Queen To make a crown, use a strip of cardboard long
enough to go around your head. Cut points along one edge of the strip.
Bend the strip into a circle and tape the ends together. Cover the crown
with foil. Glue on construction paper jewels. Use a big scarf for a
cape.

Explorer Glue two toilet-paper tubes together to make binoculars.

Cowboy Tie a kerchief around your neck. Use a piece of rope for a
lasso. A broom with a paper-bag horse’s head makes a fine horse. Tie a
piece of string around the horse’s head and use the ends for reins.

Hula Dancer Cut off the bottom of a large paper bag. Draw a line
about 3 inches (8 cm) from the top of the bag. Make long strips by
cutting up to the line. Tape paper shoulder straps to the skirt band.
Glue crumpled tissue paper to the shoulder straps for flowers.

World Traveler Get some old magazines and cut out pictures of the
places you’d like to visit. Use a shopping bag for a suitcase. Line up
chairs to make a train or plane. Hop on board and you’re off to faraway
places and exciting adventures.

Camper or Bandit Make a tent. Tie a piece of rope between the
backs of two chairs. Put a blanket or sheet over the rope. Hold the ends
of the blanket down with some heavy books. Or. make a hideout. Put a
blanket or a sheet over a table.

Telephone Operator To make a telephone switchboard, poke holes in a
cardboard box. Run pieces of string through some of the holes. Tie big
knots at the ends to keep the strings in the holes. Tie nails to the
other ends. Use earmuffs and a paper cup for the headset.

Wild Animal Make a mask out of a large grocery bag. Glue on ears
made of construction paper. Use crayons to draw the eyes. nose, and
mouth. Cut out eye holes so you can see where you are going.

Airplane Pilot Draw an outline of the instrument panel on a large
cardboard box. Glue on spools, jar lids, bottle caps, and mirrors for
the instruments. Cut a control wheel, out of cardboard. Poke a pencil
through the center of the wheel. Wind rubber bands around the pencil,
above and below the wheel to hold it in place. Poke the pencil through
the instrument panel. Use rubber bands to hold the pencil in place.
