Putting energy to work
You can water your garden by holding the hose and spraying the water
where you want it to go. But if you do this, you have to stand there
until the garden is watered. There is another way—a better way. If you
use a sprinkler, you can get the water to do the work for you.
Running water is moving. It has kinetic energy, like other moving
things. So while it sprinkles, it makes the sprinkler turn.
One kind of sprinkler has two bent arms. As water pushes out through the
arms in one direction, it pushes the arms in the other direction. The
push makes the sprinkler arms spin, spraying water in a big circle.
