Hands across the border
International
Freedom Festival
How would you like to go to a weeklong birthday party? That’s just what
Canadians in Windsor, Ontario, and Americans in Detroit, Michigan, do.
Canada’s birthday, Canada Day, falls on July 1. And the birthday of the
United States, Independence Day, falls on July 4. So, beginning on or
just before July 1, the people of Windsor and Detroit join hands for a
weeklong celebration that is called the International Freedom Festival.
from Detroit. And it is on the river that the International Freedom
Festival begins. Canadians and Americans line the shores as fireworks
set off from big barges. After the fireworks, there are puppet shows,
sky diving, water parades, and other events.
