Seaweed, snails, and frozen fish eyes

Seaweed, snails, and frozen fish eyes

If you were offered seaweed, or snails, or frozen fish eyes, what would
you do? Would you turn up your nose in disgust? Or would you say, “Yes,
thank you!”?

In Japan, seaweed is an important food. In Wales, the people like a
vegetable dish called bara laver that is made from seaweed. And a lot
of people eat seaweed without knowing it. That’s because it is used to
make ice cream, candy, and jellies.

Many people, but especially the French, think that snails baked in
garlic sauce are very tasty. They also enjoy raw sea urchins. Eskimo
children love frozen fish eyes and maggots scraped from animal skins.

People learn to like the foods they get used to.

If certain foods seem strange to you, it’s just because you never
learned to eat them.
