Can you “read” the pictures?
Look at the elephant! Do you see the soldiers on the prancing horse? No,
it’s not a parade. These are pictures painted on a house in India.
Other pictures tell about the family in the house—if you can “read”
the pictures. For instance, a lotus flower means a wedding. And a
picture of the god Shiva and his wife Parvati means that a baby boy was
bom to the family.
People in many parts of the world decorate houses and other buildings.
Some pictures show events in history. Some have a religious meaning. And
some are designs that are supposed to have a magic power. But whatever
the meaning, the pictures are nice to look at.
