Brothers and Sisters, Moms and Dads
Brothers and Sisters, Moms and Dads
What is a family?
To the ancient Greeks, it was a mother, father, and their children,
living together in the same house. That’s what the word “family” has
meant to many people for thousands of years. That’s what it means to
many of us throughout the world today.
But there are other kinds of families, and other ways of family life.
There are families in which parents and their children do not live
together. There are families in which a child can have six or seven
mothers and fathers, and dozens of brothers and sisters!
There are families that live in the same house with as many as fifty
other families.
But every kind of family shares some things with every other kind. Every
kind of family is a group of people who mean much to each other, who do
things together, and who share a way of life.
In that way, even the most different kinds of families are very much
alike.
