I wonder and I wish
I wonder if I’ll ever know about everything in my world. I ask about the
things that puzzle me. I learn some new thing every day. Still I wonder.
I write poems that tell about the things that are important to me. I
write about the things that make me laugh when I think of them.
Thoughtful or funny, each poem I write tells something about me.
I Wish I Were
I wish I were a baseball cap And lived on someone’s head. Naaa, that’s
no good ’cause they would Leave me when they went to bed.
I wish I were a shining star To give the people light. Naaa, that
wouldn’t be much better ‘Cause I’d only live at night.
I wish I were an engine That lived behind a hood. Naaa, I don’t think
that would work ‘Cause gas doesn’t taste that good.
I’m glad I’m not a baseball cap, A car, a bird, a toy.
There’s only one thing I’m thankful for, And that’s that I’m a boy!

I Wish I Were a Fish
1 wish I were a fish;
Then I’d stay clean all day.
I wouldn’t have to take a bath.
I’d swim the sand away.
Richard Gowenlock, Age 8. California
I wonder why the world is round, And why some people always frown.
Why is ice cream freezing cold?
Why are lions fearless and bold?
Why are some people so shy?
Why is it good to have blueberry pie?
These are the things I wonder why.
