I breathe

I breathe

I breathe in and out through my nose and mouth.

Fresh air is made warm and clean in my nasal cavity.

The air goes down my trachea, through my bronchial tubes, and deep into
my two lungs.

Used air leaves my lungs through my bronchial tubes. It goes up my
trachea and leaves my body through my nose and mouth.

My nasal cavity and my sinuses are in my head. My trachea is in my
throat. My lungs are in my chest.

Under my lungs is a big, strong muscle. It is called my diaphragm. My
diaphragm helps my lungs pull in fresh air and push out used air.

Around my lungs are 24 ribs and many muscles. My ribs and muscles
protect my lungs and help my lungs move in and out.

In the pictures on the next page, some things can be seen in the boy’s
body which cannot be seen in the girl’s. They can be seen in the boy
because his body is turned.
