The first four-footed animal
Imagine a fish with legs!
Once upon a time, there really was an animal that looked like a fish
with legs. Most scientists believe that about 400 million years ago it
swam in the warm, green waters of swamps and lagoons. It also walked
about on the muddy shore.
This creature was probably the first four-footed animal in the world. It
was also one of the very first amphibians— the great, great granddaddy
of today’s frogs, toads, and salamanders.
