The biggest dinosaurs
You could have walked beneath an Apatosaurus and your head wouldn’t even
have touched its stomach.
An Apatosaurus was as long as four big elephants standing in a line. The
word Apatosaurus means “untrue lizard.” The man who named it thought
such a huge creature could not have been real. Apatosaurus is also
sometimes called Brontosaurus, which means “thunder lizard.”
The dinosaur called Brachiosaurus was even bigger. It was as long as
five big elephants standing in a line. And it was so tall that it could
have looked over the top of a four-story building.
Scientists say that these two kinds of dinosaurs lived about 150 million
years ago. They were big, but not dangerous to other animals, for they
ate only plants.
