Strange sea animals
Scientists say that five hundred million years ago all plants and
animals lived in the sea. There were sponges, jellyfish, worms with
legs, and things like clams.
And there was another animal that moved busily everywhere over the rocks
and sand. It had big, buglike eyes and feelers and many legs. It looked
like a crab and insect mixed together. This animal was a trilobite.
Some trilobites were as big as your fist. Most were no bigger than a
quarter. They were no smarter than insects. But 500 million years ago,
trilobites were the biggest and smartest animals in the whole world.
