Flying reptiles
No reptile that lives today—snake, turtle, lizard, alligator, or
crocodile—can fly. And no reptile of today has hair on its body. But
scientists say that 150 million years ago there were many flying
reptiles. And some scientists think that some of the reptiles may have
had a kind of hair on their bodies.
Most of the flying reptiles of 150 million years ago were about the size
of bats of today. And the reptiles probably flew much as bats do.
The flying reptiles flapped and fluttered and glided over lakes and
seashores and grabbed up fish in their long jaws. They probably climbed
trees and hung head down from branches, with their wings folded around
themselves like blankets.
