Dirty air and water kill animals

Potomac River Fish

Fish take water into their gills to breathe. If too much waste material
is in the water, the fish are killed.

Dirty air and water kill animals

Animals need clean air and water. Many animals cannot breathe air that
has lots of smoke and soot in it. Fish and other animals can’t live in
lakes and rivers that have lots of garbage and waste materials in them.
When oil covers the waters of the ocean, many sea animals and birds are
killed. And insect sprays kill other animals besides insects.

Water birds can’t tell when there is oil in the water. When they try
to swim in the oily water, they drown.
