The School-Age Child: 5 to 8 years
Children between 5 and 8 years old tell you exactly what they feel and
think. They inform you readily if they are sick, happy, or miserable.
They flaunt their skills proudly and proclaim their thrills and horrors
loudly.
School-age children are high-spirited. They laugh easily. They are full
of ideas and questions. Yet, they will withdraw into themselves and
reflect.
In school, most 5- to 8-year-olds are wide-awake mentally and
uncomplicated emotionally. These are crucial years for
children—probably the most important years of their education. Adults
at home and school must make sure that children get the best possible
start in their school careers.
