Eight
The Greeks of long ago thought of eight as a shape with eight sides and
eight corners. Such a shape is called an octagon, a name that means
“eight corners.” They also saw eight as a shape called a cube, made from
two square fours.
The number eight was the Greek symbol for wisdom. And for people of many
ancient lands it was the number that stood for magic and science.
Ancient Hindus believed that the world was made up of eight parts, and
the ancient Chinese divided the year into eight seasons.
The color of eight is said to be rose. And some people think that eight
belongs to the star group called Scorpio, the Scorpion.
