The party-planner’s check list
Here’s a check list that will help you have a successful party. It tells
you what to do and when to do it.
Before the Party
Two Weeks Before
ask your parents for permission to have a party
decide on the date and the time
decide on the theme, guests, activities, and refreshments
make the invitations
Ten Days Before
send the invitations plan the favors, decorations, and
prizes
plan the activities and refreshments
start to practice your party manners
One Week Before
collect or buy the game supplies
collect or buy make-and-do supplies
buy or make the favors, prizes, and decorations
check on replies to the invitations make \”take-home” bags for each
guest order any special foods, such as a
birthday cake
One Day Before
help your parents clear the party and game area
put up the decorations
get a large carton for garbage
wrap prizes and favors
buy the food (unless you are having it delivered or will eat out)
make special foods that will keep overnight
pick up cake
put the game and make-and-do supplies in a convenient place
On the Day of the Party
Before the Guests Arrive
check what you did yesterday to make sure everything is still in order
make repairs if necessary
clear a space for coats
set out the prizes, favors, and
“take-home” bags
put your pets in another room
When the Guests Arrive
greet your guests at the door; accept any presents politely; take coats
direct the guests to the make-and-do table (if you have one)
begin the activities
serve refreshments
give out “take-home” bags, prizes, and favors
say good-by to each guest
After the Guests Have Left
help your parents clean up
play with your presents (if you
received any)
think about how much fun you had
