Materials

■ transparent tape

■ paper

■ scissors

■ thread

Hanging shapes

1 Cut out a circle, a square, and a triangle. Draw lines on the
shapes, as shown. Cut along these lines. Move the paper toward the
scissors as you cut. Tape thread to each shape. Hang the shapes up and
watch them twirl!

2 To make a fancier shape, fold a rectangle in half the long way.
Now fold it in half again, the short way. Draw lines on the rectangle,
as shown. Each line should start at a folded edge. Start two of the
lines at the top and two at the side. End each line just before it
reaches the other folded edge.

Now cut along these lines, as shown by the arrows. It’s easier if you
turn the paper as you cut.

3 Carefully unfold the rectangle. Hold it in the middle and shake it
so that the strips fall below.

Tape a piece of thread to the shape. Hang the shape up and watch it
twirl!
