Japanese lantern

Materials

construction paper (two colors)

  • ruler

  • scissors

  • transparent tape

  • Cut a sheet of construction paper in half, the short way. Overlap
    the short ends of one half-sheet and tape them together to make a
    tube.

  • Fold a sheet of construction paper in half, the long way. Draw a
    straight line along the length of the paper, near the unfolded
    edges. Cut slits up to this line (see slit, page 37). Make the
    slits close together.

  1. Unfold the slitted paper. Tape the end of one long edge to the top
    of the tube. Wrap the slit paper tightly around the tube. Let the
    ends overlap. Tape the top edge to the tube. Now tape the bottom
    edge of the slitted paper to the bottom edge of the tube.
