AND THE WALLS CAME TUMBLIN’ DOWN

The Bible tells the story of a great battle in which Joshua, a leader of
the Jews, made his people shout and blow on rams’ horns until the walls
of Jericho came tumbling down.

In those days, Jericho was a great city. But today you see only a big
heap of dirt near the Dead Sea in the country once called Palestine.

This mound of earth is all that’s left of what may be the oldest city in
the world. By digging down through layer after layer of earth and
stones, scientists have found parts of the walls of nearly thirty cities
piled one on top of the other.

Nobody can tell which one of these walls was brought down by the shouts
of the Jews. But the scientists are learning a lot about what may be the
oldest city in the world.

Scientists have dug holes in Jordan to find the Jericho Walls.
