Life in the ocean
Diatoms are tiny plants that live in the ocean. They can be seen only
with a microscope.
Diatoms are green plants, and make their own food. Tiny, shrimplike
copepods eat them. Small fish eat copepods. And the small fish are eaten
by bigger fish.
Without diatoms to eat, the copepods would die. Soon, all the other sea
animals would die. You can see how important the tiny diatoms are!
