Taking care of zoo animals
Many people work in a zoo. People called keepers feed the animals and
keep them and their cages clean. Animal doctors, called veterinarians,
check the animals to keep them healthy and care for them if they get
sick. Zoologists study the animals to learn more about them. The next
few pages show some of the things done by people who work at the famous
London Zoo, in England.
An animal can have a toothache, too. Zookeepers check the animals’
teeth to make sure they’re all right.Alligator
Giraffes watch as the zookeeper raises a bunch of leaves up into a tree.

Now the leaves are just high enough for these long-necked animals to eat
comfortably.
Rhinoceros
A zookeeper cuts and files a rhinoceros’s toenails. If its toenails
grow too long, the rhinoceros has trouble walking.
