Turtles and terrible lizards
According to most scientists, the first dinosaurs came into the world
about 225 million years ago. And along with them came the first turtles.
The word dinosaur means terrible lizard. But the first dinosaurs
weren’t very terrible. Some were no bigger than chickens. The biggest
were not much taller than a tall man. It wasn’t until millions of years
later that there were giant dinosaurs.
The first turtles looked much like turtles do now. Turtles’ shapes must
be just right for them. They haven’t changed much in 225 million years.
