Pleat and dye prints
Materials
-
containers (three)
-
food coloring (blue, red, yellow)
-
newspaper
-
paper towels (white)
-
water

Before you start this project, cover your work area with layers of
newspaper. Cover yourself with an old shirt.
-
Pour a little of each food color into different containers. Add a
little water to each color. -
Tear off a paper towel. Pleat the paper towel (see pleat,
page 36) in large, even strips, the long way. Keeping the towel
folded, pleat it again, the short way.

- Hold the pleated towel in the middle to keep the pleats together.
Dip a corner into one of the food colors.
The color will spread quickly, so take the towel out as soon as the
color starts to spread.
Now dip a second corner into another color. Then dip a third corner into
the last color.
- Unfold the towel very carefully and lay it on a layer of newspaper
to dry. When it is dry, you can use it as gift-wrapping paper. Or,
glue it to a piece of construction paper to make a greeting card.
